Kristin witbeck Lee

My Haudenosaunee name given to me by my great-grandmother is Ganä:gah:is, One who splashes water.

I still live with what this could mean.

To be playfully disruptive? Cleansing? Water always moves — all living things move and change constantly, in harmony and adapting to the environment, flowing to an ocean where all merges again.

I try to work with this.

I seek to encounter the essence in all beings, and to express and enliven this meeting through color, form and the material of paint, so it can be a living and original experience again and again.

Portrait commissions are a special favorite of mine. Everyone needs to feel seen, and a from-life portrait not only memorializes but can heal and continue to inspire. I also offer energy portraits from intuition; these are often striking and surprising and are treasured by my special patrons.

I offer workshops, retreats, consultations and art.

I work in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; New York City; and Connecticut, where I am developing an art and nature sanctuary on 16.8 acres at Solacebrook, in the beautiful Litchfield hills.

My work is in private collections in NYC, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Massachusetts, and New Zealand, and has been exhibited at Ganondagan in NY and the Houston Museum of Fine Art.

BIO

I hold a BA in English and Studio Art from Connecticut College, an MFA in writing from Bennington College and a Masters equivalent teaching certificate from The Center for Anthroposophy. I have worked in advertising and founded and taught at an educational nonprofit, through which I also homeschooled my children. I study at the Bridgeview School of Arts in New York City.

My clients have included Harvard University, Kraft, Pillsbury, AT&T and others. My poetry has been published in Western Humanities Review at the University of Utah as well as in the Columbia University Journal of Arts and Literature, and has been featured as part of an exhibit at the Houston Museum of Fine Art. I have also exhibited at NY State’s Ganondagan Museum.

I have worked with healing and intuition, therapeutic listening and Anthroposophy for decades, independently and with teachers from around the world. My father, Luis R. Lee, is an enrolled full-blood Seneca, and I am a certified Tribal Seneca Artisan.

My life experiences and studies are woven into my fine arts work, which I experience as a sacred act of creativity and healing.
